State Archery Tournament

The guy in the red shirt is Mike Gerard- He once held the world record for archery. He shoots on the Hoyt Pro Team. Kyle, Mike Gerard, Kort, Kolt This weekend the boys shot their very first state archery tournament. The guy that runs the league they shoot on suggested it to Shawn the other day and said they boys really should try it. After a few days of thinking about it we decided it was a good opportunity for them. We are so glad we did. The boys had a blast and did really well. It was so different for them because it was so quiet and they had to shoot 5 arrows each round for a total of 60. It took them just about 2 hours to complete. They had 4 minutes each round and there was a timer and a guy with a whistle. Once they had shot all the arrows for the round they had to go down and score it each time. They had to have 1 person read it and 2 people write down the score for each round then when it was all said and done they had to add it all up, make sure they all matched and sign each one. They do this I guess to catch any cheaters!! The total score possible is 300. Kyle shot 286 Kolt shot 251 and the pro next to Kyle shot 291. So Kyle was pretty darn close to the pro!! Kolt was not too far off either only about 40 points off of the pro. The tournament went for a couple of days at several different places around the state. They said it will take about a week to find out their results within the whole state of Utah. One of the archery shop owners was there and was telling us that the arrows Mike shoots are about $360.00 a dozen. Shawn just bought Kyle some this last week and we were thinking $120.00 was a lot, but apparently not Ü
